THIS JUST IN... side bet action!

THIS JUST IN...

It has come to The Commish's attention that there was some significant action in one particular Week 7 match-up. I'm speaking of the match-up between The Travelin' Man manager, Brian Hanley, and The House Of Pain co-managers, Jayne and Bobby. These two teams have a side-bet history dating all the way back to 2011. And before you can understand the magnitude of last weeks bet, you must first know about last years bet.

You see, also on Week 7 last year, these two teams went up against each other and placed a bet. Only a few short weeks before Thanksgiving, these two teams decided what better wager than betting a 20lb turkey to the winner. Brian lost this bet 49.93 to 59.45. But did he send the Walsh's the Butterball they deserved? No. He did not.

A year has passed and Brian has not sent a turkey north for the winter. That being said, The Walsh's offered Brian an out. This year, double or nothing... only it's ham. That's right. If Brian was to win, his debt would be wiped clean and he would not longer be on the hook for the 20 pound gobbler. But if Brian were to lose this one as well, he'd be in deep for not just a 20lb turkey... but a 20lb ham as well! (spiral cut, of course) So who won between these two teams? Well, by a score of 72.23 to 55.43, it looks like the Walsh's will have yet another thing to be thankful for this year... a beautiful baby, and Brian treating to most of the Walsh Thanksgiving.

So remember, if you place a bet, make sure to pay your bet. Otherwise the Fantasy Football Karma Gods will not be kind to you.

Happy side-bets everyone.

Sincerely,
The Commish

The Welcome Back Edition

-->
TOP STORY: We’re back!  – The ref strike is over. Elizabeth and Ricky’s wedding is over. It’s time to get back to football! At least for me it is. Some of you, have never lost focus on football. Bob, Christi, Uncle Joe, and Jayne & Bobby clearly know what they’re doing. I’d like to say I can blame my lack of focus thus far on prepping for Baby Hanley’s arrival, but Jayne and Bobby are doing the same for Baby Walsh and yet they’ve managed to go undefeated thus far. So that’s it. No more excuses! It’s time to play some football! It’s still early in the season. Everyone still has a chance at this thing! (Well, everyone except The White Lion. He’s 0-6 and has no chance.)

COMMISH HOUSEKEEPING-
Trades vs. Moves
It’s around this point in the season where people start to ask, “How many trades do we have?” Trades between teams is unlimited, meaning if Uncle Kevin wanted to trade Dan Marino to Uncle Bill for Derek Jeter, he could do so without it effecting his number of trades. “Moves” however are a different story. You only have 15 “moves” all season. A “move” is when you pick up a player that is currently not on anyone else’s team. Once you’ve done that 15 times, you’re done. Some of you are already at 9 moves.

Commish Questions
Some of you think the best time to reach out to your commissioner with questions is anywhere from an hour to five minutes before the 1 o’clock games on Sunday. Shockingly, this is usually not the best time. My advice is check your line ups sooner than 5 minutes before kickoff, that way if you have any questions about trades or picking up players, there will be time to address them. Questions are welcome, and I’m happy to help out in any way, but you’ll have better luck if you get to me earlier in the week. Again, I am happy to answer questions. If you have a complaint, as always, please see Uncle Jimmy.

KEY WEEK 7 MATCHUPS –
Matchup #1 – The Travelin’ Man vs. The House of Pain. Pretty much every match-up the undefeated Walsh’s are in right now is going to be a key matchup. Everyone is looking for them to lose a game. While Yahoo projects it to be close, my money is on the Pain Train to steamroll over the 2-4 Travelin’ Man.

Matchup #2 – Herbivores vs. The Silver Fox. Matchups between siblings are always ones to watch. Yahoo has Bob favored to win, but this reporter has it on good authority that Bob has been focusing his attention on swimming rather than football. Plus, the Bouchard’s are still on a high from the honeymoon and nothing can stop them.

Matchup #3 – The Hackers vs. Weheartkevinbacon. This matchup is huge! Right now it looks like Mickelly has this one well in hand after putting up over 29 points on Thursday Night’s game. However, if Bryan and Ellen can figure out how to log on to Yahoo and change their lineup, they may have a chance. Right now they have 3 players “starting” that aren’t playing.

SIDE BETS – Any side bets this week?

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Sincerely,
The Commish

Week 1 Recap Edition

TOP STORY: Jersey Power
The Top 3 Teams all hail from New Jersey. But more on that in a little bit. Once again, we've started the season off with excitement. Many of the games came down to Monday Night Football. We had some upsets, some come backs, some big, big scores, and even a team that choked. (The Divas had me beet going into Monday Night's games but their defense couldn't hold on and I came back to win.) But back to The Top 3... weheartkevinbacon, Sea Girt Redemption, and NJ Superstars take 1, 2 and 3. That's 3 Jersey teams (with a bit of Kentucky) leading the pack. Let's get to know our Week 1 Leaders...

#1 weheartkevinbacon
Michaela and Kelly. They're not just BMF's (Best Manager's Foreva). They are also in first place with a powerhouse team that gives no mercy. Just ask The Silver Fox. Bob got utterly crushed this week when Mickelly more than doubled his score. Kevin Bacon doesn't let up when there's alien monsters under the ground, and weheartkevinbacon doesn't let up even when they have a huge lead.

#2 Sea Girt Redemption
Have you heard? Matty is the greatest. How do I know? Because The White Lion called me and told me so. Oh, what's that? He called you too? I guess word gets around. When you put up over 88 points in your debut week of The Hanley Cup, it's hard not to get noticed. Welcome to the League Matty. You look to be a force to be reckoned with. But don't think because you're the youngest person in the league that any of your cousins or aunts and uncles are going to go easy on you. Actually, some of us are hoping you go easy on us this season!

#3 NJ Superstars
The only former champion in the Top 5. Almost the only former champion in the Top 10, but yelnah barely beat The Hackers to get the No. 10 spot. Anyway, Brian Shuster knows how to win and he's proven it again by beating another former champion, Brian Hanley, in Week 1. It wasn't even close. Basically, the 2009 Champion put the smack down on the 2010 Champion. Congrats Brian. Sorry Brian.

Week 1 is probably my favorite week in The Hanley Cup. It truly separates the winners from the losers. Half of us are undefeated, while the other have don't know what victory feels like.
Did you know that The Hanley Cup Champion from every season started by winning their first week? (Actually, I have no idea if that's true, but it sounds like it could be.)

Week 2 Preview:
Week 2 promises to be an exciting week. For some, it's an opportunity to go 2-0, while others are simply trying to avoid an 0-2 start. While many of the match-ups look to be exciting, there are 3 that stand out as the ones to watch in Week 2.

Match-up #3
THE WHITE LION vs. Girlzrock - Christi won last week and put up more points than Uncle Michael, but Yahoo! has the lion favored over the rocker by about 3 points. But what makes this match-up even more exciting is that these two managers are on opposite sides of the same house. It's sure to be a long, tense week at the Casa De Hanley in Orlando.

Match-up #2
EndzoneDivas712 vs. Delvin - Last years champs go up against the Season 1 Hanley Cup Champion. Neither team is off to a good start, so this match-up is even more important. Kevin has Delanie on his side, but there are 3 of "those Haney girls". (no I didn't misspell it, that's a joke for the Spring Lake folks) Yahoo! has the Divas favored by a touchdown. My guess is they win by more than that.

Match-up #1
The Travelin' Man vs. yelnah - It's another match-up between former champions. This time it's Season 2 up against Season 5. Uncle Joe already has a "w" but his win was less than impressive barely squeaking past the Flieshack... the Flyshack... the Fleich... barely squeaking past Ellen and Bryan. Brian Hanley on the other hand, is in a must win situation. He lost in Week 1 so he needs to show up this week. Yahoo! has The Travelin' Man favored, but yelnah has a more intimidating profile pic so it's really anyone's game.
Commish Pic: Too Close To Call

So there ya have it. Season 6 is underway and it could be the best one yet. Kudos to Matty and Uncle Michael for getting the side bets going already. I encourage more of you to place your bets! As a matter of fact, I plan on crushing The Hackers so badly this week, I think I'll have to place a side bet of my own. Ellen and Bryan, you up for a wager? Loser has to write "(winning team name) is #1" on their forehead in Sharpie and take a picture of it and email it to the entire family. Let me know if you agree to these terms.

Sincerely,
The Commish
